Healthy Lunchbox Workshop Ideas

Our recent healthy lunchbox was a huge success! Our Chef came in and spoke to the children and made some healthy lunch options for them to try!

Here is some of the useful ideas he gave for healthy lunchboxes that the children all loved!

HERE ARE TEN TIPS FOR PACKING A HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCHBOX:

  1. Include a Variety of Food Groups - Pack a balanced meal with protein, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy (or dairy alternatives).
  2. Choose Whole Grains - Swap white bread for whole wheat, brown rice, or whole grain wraps for added fiber and nutrients.
  3. Add Lean Proteins - Include chicken, turkey, tofu, beans, eggs, or yogurt to keep your child full and energized.
  4. Pack Fresh Fruits and Vegetables - Cut up carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, apple slices, or berries for easy snacking. Pair them with hummus or yogurt dip for extra flavour!
  5. Limit Processed Foods - Avoid pre-packaged snacks high in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats. Instead, opt for homemade granola bars, trail mix, or whole fruit.
  6. Hydrate with Water - Ditch sugary drinks and pack a refillable water bottle or milk instead.
  7. Make Lunch Fun & Appealing - make colourful veggie skewers or pack a small note to brighten their day.
  8. Prep Ahead - Wash and cut veggies, portion out snacks, and make sandwiches the night before to save time in the morning.
  9. Leftovers – Repackaging or upcycling leftovers for packed lunches are a great way of reducing food waste and giving children a real food lunch.
  10. Get Kids Involved - Let your child help pick and prepare their lunch—they’re more likely to eat what they helped make!
