Quad Kids - Lewes June 19

Harbour's talented team of year 5 and 6 pupils took part in Quad Kids athletics competition consisting of four events: 75M Sprint, 600M run, a vortex throw and the standing long jump. Harbour qualified for this event in second place! So we entered the event in high spirits knowing we had a very strong team in these previously mentioned four disciplines. The boys started off with the two field events, whilst the girls started off with the two track events. Confidence and team spirit was growing as the morning progressed, with plenty of top 3 finishes! Once they had completed their two events, they then switched over. It was so pleasing to see, that when the boys had finished their track events that they wandered down to the sandpit to cheer on the girls from their school with their jumps! Harbour finished the event in second place, just a mere 8 points away from the school in first, but a huge point difference of over 300 points to the next school in third!!! I am hugely proud of these 9 athletes who represented our school. Not only did they qualify, but they went mighty close to winning. Proving Harbour to be one of the strongest schools around currently, in athletics. Let's hope we can continue this form into District Sports. A special mention to Mrs Cox who came along and helped on the day. Another thank you to Mr Burton-Durham and Mrs Smith for testing them in the first place.

Netball High Five Area Finals June 19

After our success at previous netball tournaments we became part of the South Down Giants team to represent our area for High Five Netball. We arrived at the K2 in Crawley not knowing what to expect and feeling excited but nervous. Our team of 8 had beaten off fierce competition to take their place amongst 1000 other young people representing their schools. 5000 young people had competed over their areas in various sports to win their places at the K2 finals. There was an Olympic style opening ceremony with a real Olympian opening the games. After this, we made our way to the courts. We played 8 games in all against some excellent competitors. All 8 children kept fighting through each & every game, we could not be prouder of the team spirit, passion & sportsmanship that all showed. This was noted by all the teams we played against & when it came to the final medal ceremony there was a huge cheer and a few tears shed when our team won the ‘School Spirit’ award, as nominated by the other teams we played. Even our area organiser had people telling her what spirit you all showed as a team. Mrs Smith & Mrs Williams were proud to be there with you all. Well done Amelie, Blake, Bobbi, Elliott, Thea, Heather, Jasper & Jodie.

QuadKids May 19

Harbour qualify for QuadKids, for the second year in a row! All children from year 5 and 6 have been partaking in 4 athletics events to see where they rank amongst their peers after an average across all 4 events is produced. After inputting their data, there was a nervous wait to see if Harbour’s best 10 athletes (5 boys and 5 girls) had done enough to qualify for the event held at Lewes athletics track. Not only did we qualify we were ranked 2nd in the schools that took part! I very much look forward to seeing how we get on after half term at Lewes!  Special mention to Mrs Smith and Mr Burton-Durham for organising and testing the children.

Friday 10th May – Mixed Football Finals:

The boys from year 3 and 4 that took part in the Albion in the community tournament had a lovely day out at an exceptional facility. They even caught a glimpse of the Brighton team doing a light jog around one of the adjacent pitches. The boys were up against the 'best of the best' from East Sussex, West Sussex and Brighton & Hove schools. This was a tough challenge and something this team weren't used to, after winning the previous local tournament in Seaford.  I was so proud of the boys for never giving up and battling to the end of every game. Great team spirit was shown when Finley Barrett scored a goal in our final game. Special mention to governors Mr Mayo and Mr Voice for transporting the team to and from Lancing and being a great helping hand to myself and the boys.

Friday 3rd May – Girls Football Finals:

The day started with the girls being put into group 1 on pitch 1. There were 12 teams split into two groups. The first game started well against Balfour A. We played well pressing and challenging from the start resulted in a great goal from Caylah and a 1-0 win. Next up was Thomas A Beckett a hard game, very physical we challenged for every ball - a clash of heads stopped the game. After play started they we left free and we were 1-0 down. We still challenged for every ball, played good football but another injury as Molly made a great save. Towards the end of the game another goal, and we lost 2-0.  We started brightly against Heron Park and went close, a good save from their goalie. A great move, brilliant passing and a good low finish from Caylah 1-0 and another win. Next we were up against Cottesmore they hadn’t lost yet. It was very competitive a great save from both keepers. We won the ball in defence, great passing and a brilliant finish from Caylah 1-0. We continued to play good football a goal disallowed but still won 1-0. We needed to win the last game to go through to the semi final. We started well against Swiss Gardens but after a hard fought game we finished losing 2-1. A great experience and a great day. Well done Harbour girls.

Monday 20th May – SEND Football Finals:

A good move from them and good shot 1-1 the boys continued to press Freddie scoring another, from kickoff they equalised 2 - 2. Huw made an excellent save to keep the scores level. Then a great move and shot from Nathan found the back of the net 3-2 winners. Next was Harbour v Bevendean. The boys started slowly and found themselves 2-0 down. They started to press and play better Kyle scoring to finish the match 2-1. The boys now needed a win. Harbour v St Paul’s we started brilliantly passing and tackling and Nathan finished the move with another goal. We continued to press and Freddie scored to win the game 2-0. Next Harbour v New Horizons, we again were playing well Freddie and Bailey scoring goals in quick time. With almost the last kick of the game Felix scored a great goal at the near post 3-0 winners. Three wins and one loss our last game we needed a result to get into the final. The game Harbour v East Brook started with both sides challenging and playing well. A good move and Bailey was through an excellent shot 1-0 up. Both teams continued to battle a move and a shot found the corner 1-1. We finished with a draw and a wait to see if we had progressed.  Harbour were the last to be named to play against Blue Jays. The game was 5 minutes, the winner to make the final. Both teams started well. Harbour battled hard but ran out of time finishing the game runners up. They were disappointed but played well and all had a smile as they received their medals at the end of the tournament.  We are very proud of you all. Well done.

Thursday 22nd May 2019 Football Harbour V Breakwater Girls.

The girls were looking forward to their arranged match against Breakwater. The game started well both teams playing to win, both passing and tackling well. The ball broke from a tackle and Breakwater scored from a good shot into the bottom corner. Harbour started and after a great move the shot was well saved. Breakwater continued to press and finished the half 2-0 up. The girls heads didn’t go down and started the second half well tackling and pushing Breakwater back. The ball was passed quickly forward and their player was left on her own, our keeper saved well but the rebound was forced home 3-0. We continued to challenge for every ball, the girls enjoyed the game. A brilliant passing move and another good shot well saved by their keeper. We finished losing the game 4-0 but all the girls played well and gained great experience. I am so proud of you all, already looking forward to the next game.

 Gymnastics Competition

On Thursday 25th April, three Year 5 and three Year 6 children attended the annual gymnastics competition in Hailsham.  Our team was Ellamae, Deborah, Chloe, Uli, Ella and Amelie.  We had 3 disciplines to complete.  After a warm up, our first piece was the body management. After that we did the vault and finally our floor routine. I believe this was the most complex as we had a lot of moves to remember. We took turns to present in front of the judges. Overall it was really fun and an amazing experience. Everyone did really well and we came 6th out of 9 groups

Albion in the Community Football Tournaments - Year 3/4 Girls

On a lovely day in March we travelled by bus to the tournament in Seaford. The girls were keen and excited. Our first game was against Heron Park. We got off to a steady start. And the game finished 0-0. Next game was against Southover C of E Primary and we started the game confidently the girls tackling well and passing. We continued to press and finished the game 1-0, a win! After a short rest, our 3rd game was against Haven Primary. We started well lots of strong challenges from both sides and a good finish 2-0. The next game was against Seaford Primary. The girls started strong and with a good effort ended the game 4 – 0 up - a great result. Our final group game against Heron Park we needed a result. We played well but after an early goal from Harbour, Heron scored to level the game 1 - 1. The results were added up and Harbour came second and in the final. Harbour v Haven. The game was between two good teams each going for the win. However as the final whistle blew, the girls  came runners up, with Haven winning 2-0. The tournament a success, great football, great spirit. Well done I am proud of you all.

Albion in the Community Football Tournaments - Mixed

The next day we travelled by bus again to Seaford Leisure Centre to play the mixed tournament on their AstroTurf. The teams were put into 3 groups on three pitches the winner of each group to progress to the semi finals joined by the team with the best points/ goal difference. Our first game against Cradle hill scored us a 4 - 0 win. Next game Alfriston  -again we dominated the game  and an  amazing final goal secured us a 3 - 0 win. On a roll our next game was against St Michaels. The game was tight and we pressed hard to  win 2 – 0. Our final game we needed to win to top the group and get into the Semi final. Little common had won most of their games. We started strongly great tackling and passing, until the final whistle blew on a 3 - 2 win to Harbour and we were in the Semi Final. We passed well and challenged for the ball, but the Semi finished with Harbour out losing 3 - 0. A great tournament a great day and well done to Harbour I am really proud of you all great football.

 High 5 Netball

On 13th March 2019 Harbour went head to head with Meridian school to play a high 5 netball match to decide who will represent our area at the all important finals. We played four quarters of 7 minutes each, changing the squad formation each time. The teams played fantastically but Harbour used their tactical skills and knowledge and played with great ability beating Meridian 23-0. We were very proud of our team, showing great sportsmanship, well done to Amelie, Heather, Bobbi Power, Blake,Elliott, Jodie, Jasper and Thea.  Area finals here we come!!

 Netball Tournament

On a sunny February day we took three teams to the primary school netball tournament at Seahaven Academy. There were four local schools competing spread over two courts. All three teams played amazingly using everything they had been taught. Our red team and green reached the semi finals but our blue team just missed out. The red team played Telscombe in the first semi but just lost 1-0, frustratingly as they played at such a high standard of netball. Our green team played Denton and won their semi 4-0, so this made the final Telscombe v Harbour Green. The court was surrounded by our players and supporters, it was a fast paced final with the ball travelling up both ends of the court. Each and every player, played out of their skin and we finished with a 3-0 victory. We were so proud of all the children playing to the rules and being great sports people. We retained the shield for another year.  A huge well done to Team Harbour!

Cross Country - 16th January 2019

On a freezing cold, wet Wednesday afternoon, we took 43 children to Seahaven Academy to compete in the annual cross-country event. The year 3 and 4 children moved their way to the start and off they went. All the children really tried their best on a tough and gruelling course, consisting of three fields. The rain decided to make the event harder, so the children were wet and cold but they kept going. After they finished the year 5 and 6's made their way to the start line knowing they had to run further than the younger ones in severe weather conditions. I am proud to say that each and every one of them finished even with smiles on their faces.  A special mention to Lewis who came 3rd overall in the year 3/4 event. Also in the year 5/6 event and going through to the South Downs Area School Games Cross Country Finals in Lewes are Oliver 4th; George 8th and Max 9th for the boys and Ruby 4th and Jasmine 14th for the girls. As a school we came 2nd overall in years 3/4 and 3rd overall in years 5/6. Such excellent results on a weather testing day! Thank you to you all who came to support them.

Table Tennis Tournament

It was our first ever table tennis tournament with 24 keen Year 5’s and 12 eager Year 6 sports leaders. When the tournament began the children were pinging the balls everywhere but as each round moved on the children improved their skills and the games became more competitive. Mrs Smith and Mrs Chillcott really enjoyed the children’s enthusiasm and the way that the sports leaders took charge of each game. We were so proud of all the children. The end result was Grace in Year 5 in first place, Kara in Year 5 in second place and Adam in Year 5 in 3rd place. Thank you to all the sports leaders too.

Year 5/6 Peacehaven Heights V Harbour - Thursday 29th November 2018

The last game of the season a cold and wintery day, it was all to play for, with the winner to win the league. We were unbeaten and needed to win to lift the trophy. The team were keen, confident and ready for the game. We started well the game moving from one end to the other, challenges from both teams playing to win. Then an unfortunate header - a home goal and 1 nil down. The boys kept playing but found themselves 2-0 down from a good shot from midfield. Harbour stepped up a gear and started to challenge and win the ball in midfield some great passing and an excellent through ball and Ollie finished well. 2-1 down. We were through again but this time the keeper saved well. Then a foul and free kick to Peacehaven just inside the half. The shot was low and hard hit the bottom of the post and went in 3-1 down. Again the boys rallied playing good football. The second half and we pushed hard pressing for the goals we needed. A great move and through ball put Max through a great finish and 3-2. One goal behind. We pressed hard challenging well and passing well a great move and through one on one with the keeper, a great save! Against the run of play with Harbour pressing we let a goal in 4-2. We went close again just over the bar. An unfortunate unlucky goal in the last minute we lost the game 5-2. Great season unlucky finishing game.  Harbour played well not only in this game but throughout the previous games. We played to win with great team spirit and sportsmanship.

Harbour entered a team into the Albion cup 2018 under 11's girls tournament. We played at Seaford leisure centre on the astro turf. The next game was just as competitive but the girls were up for the challenge finding the net with the last kick of the game. 1-0 win a great win and a great start. On Thursday 1st November 8 girls from years 5 & 6 went up to Seahaven for a girls tournament against some other local schools. As the tournament progressed all the girls gained confidence and played well together as a team. In their last game against Breakwater, they played well as a team, nearly scoring twice. The end result of this game was 0-0. Mrs Smith, Mrs Williams and Mr Voice (Our visiting governor) were all really proud of the school spirit and sportsmanship that all the girls showed. Our last home game of the season, unbeaten so far, a big game with all to play for. Telscombe have always had a good footballing team and this match proved to be as close as always. The match kicked off with both teams competitive and wanting to win. Some solid challenges in midfield saw the game go from one end to the other both teams pushing for the opening goal. Telscombe won the ball in defence, beat a couple of challenges and their player was free just outside the box, an excellent shot saw the ball rattle the crossbar. Harbour responded well, won the ball in defence, quick passing up the pitch and a great through ball to Max, a great finish 1-0 up. Telscombe came back at us, good skill on both sides, their player brought the ball out of defence showed good skill to beat 2 Harbour challenges and a great shot from distance found the back of the net. 1-1. Another good individual move and a good pass from Telscombe another goal. 1-2 down. Second half Harbour pressed and were solid in every challenge growing as the half progressed. Tag Rugby

On Friday 19th October ten of our Year 5 and 6 children made a short trip to Seaford RFC to participate in a Tag Rugby tournament. The children were excited to be presented with their own changing room, where they got changed and took to the field. This excitement carried over onto the pitch and we won our first game...second game... and our third game! We even won a bonus game playing as an extra team!! The unbeaten momentum spilled over with Archie Curnock representing Harbour winning the kicking competition. Hopefully this successful afternoon will lead to some of the children possibly seeking to play rugby on the weekends! Special thank you to the parents for transporting the children and cheering us on.

Indoor Athletics

On 18th October we took 18 children to compete in the indoor athletics at Hailsham. This was the first time Harbour had entered this event so it was an unknown excitement ahead. There were us and 7 schools taking part on the day and the day before another 8 schools had competed. Each and every Harbour child put all their effort into every event from obstacle relay to a 6 lap parlauf (two person relay). Our boys team were outstanding in the javelin we showed the other schools how to throw and won this event. We also came first in the boys long jump, second in the girls chest push and third in boys 1+1 lap relay and girls 6 lap pairs relay. Overall as a school we came 9th out of 16 schools which Mrs Smith and Mrs Williams are very proud of. As a school team our team spirit stood out over the other schools. Intra School Basketball Tournament

An incredible 105 children participated in Harbour's Intra school basketball competition on Tuesday 9th October! Boys and girls from years 3-6 were involved in 5 minute engaging matches in the glorious sunshine. All staff who witnessed the event or refereed the matches were blown away by the level of sportsmanship on display. In particular children from older year groups helping out their younger peers within their team; getting them more touches of the basketball or a chance to score. Special mention to Jack Chaplin, Kyle Mayo, Denny Knox and Blake Georgiades  who were our sports leaders for the event and helped out the staff greatly. Can't wait for the next Intra school competition.

Year 5 and 6 Boys Football Fixture - Harbour v Breakwater

The first game of the season was at home - Harbour V  Breakwater. The weather held off and a good crowd was there to watch the match. The match started at a quick pace, each team competing well for the ball. Both teams went close, Jasper in goal in the first half pulling off some great saves. A great shot from Ollie gave us the lead 1-0. The match was close and Breakwater equalised with a good finish. We kept up the pace and Max, Devon, George and Devon all went close. After some great defending we were rewarded in the second half with another superb move, shot and goal from Ollie. With five minutes to go and all to play for, we continued to defend well and were pushing for the third goal. Breakwater put in some good challenges in midfield and a good snap shot a goal! 2-2 with minutes to play. Harbour braced themselves and went for the winning goal pushing Breakwater back with throw ins, corners and crosses going into their box. A cross right in front of goal and their defender pushed the ball away with his hand. Handball Penalty! Ollie stepped up steadied himself and slammed the challenge into the roof of the net 3-2. Harbour controlled the final moments of the game challenging as they had throughout the game for every ball. Final whistle 3-2 win for Harbour a great competitive start to the league season. We continued to dominate the game, Ben and Ollie scoring to finish clear 3-0 winners. Next we played Balfour, a Brighton and Hove team, after the kick off we got caught in possession and they scored 0-1 down. The team continued to press throughout the game going close to scoring on several occasions but finished losing 1 nil. Following this we were up against Swiss Gardens a West Sussex team. We started well and found ourselves 1-0 up. However they equalised quickly. We pushed hard throughout, going close but it ended a Draw 1-1. Next was West Park from West Sussex.  The game was very close both teams playing well. They scored to go 1-0 up. We equalised to make it 1-1 in the final minutes we had a shot saved and just missed the post the game ending 1-1. This brought our final game against Elm Grove Brighton. The boys were going for the win. We started strongly in a very even contest against a good team. A great passing move let Ben in 1-0 up. Elm Grove pressed high, stepped up and scored quickly, 1-1. We kicked off and put some great passing moves together coming close to scoring. Elm Grove challenged well won the ball, dribbled past a couple of players crossed and the resulting shot went straight in the corner of the goal. 1-2 down. We kicked off and pushed them back a great game and contest. We won a corner and from this, Ben headed a great goal 2-2. With both teams pressing for the win and playing good football the game commenced. They won a challenge in midfield a couple of passes later they were through on goal a good shot found the net 2-3 down. The boys went on the attack challenged hard and went close bringing out a good save from their keeper in the dying minutes. The game finished 3-2 to Elm Grove. Although Harbour played with team spirit, fairness and passion the results meant we finished 4th in our group. Well done team.

Year 5 and 6 Hockey Tournament

A bright and breezy morning was the setting for the year 5 and 6 Quick Sticks Hockey tournament in Eastbourne. Despite not knowing what to expect, the 12 children were eagerly anticipating a day of excitement. Both teams played 3 group games of 10 minutes with opposing fortunes. Harbour 1 enjoyed two wins (2-1 and 3-0) and one defeat (5-0).  Harbour 2’s effort and competitiveness were not matched by the results, losing 2-0, 4-0 and 2-0.   Both teams entered the quarter finals in to two separate competitions. First up were Harbour 1 who fought hard but eventually lost 2-1 to Heron Park. Harbour 2 enjoyed a dominant display against Willingdon but were unable to find the break through. After a tense extra time and penalty shoot -out, Gabe struck the winning penalty to send the children, Mr Atherton and Mrs Williams wild! With all the children cheering on, Harbour 2 took another team to extra time in the semi- final. Agonisingly, they were beaten 2-1, with the opposition scoring a golden goal in extra time. Despite the losses, all children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and their commitment and team spirit gave a glowing representation of Harbour Primary School.

Girls Football

Friday 3rd November 2017

The setting was a crisp autumnal afternoon at Seahaven academy. Our two girl teams- full of excitement and energy, made their way to the year 5/6 football tournament. Despite a lack of practice, we were confident the girls would give their all and in the process, have fun. Both teams gave everything during their 4 matches; Team Harbour A beat the eventual runners up, with Maisie  scoring a last- minute goal.  Both teams battled hard towards an entertaining draw when they played each other. The most encouraging part was the support both teams gave each other throughout. We finished the tournament 4th and 5th but myself, Mrs Smith and all parents were extremely proud of the girls. They showed everyone watching that hard work, encouragement and having fun can mean just as much as winning.

Football News Dec 16

Peacehaven Heights  V Harbour

Our last game of the season! The children were as enthusiastic and confident of a win as they have been for every game. We started well, passing and playing strongly creating good chances which were defended well by a strong Peacehaven team. We defended well with our keeper saving well on a couple of occasions. Peacehaven went 1-0 up with a well worked move and an excellent strike. The children kept attacking, Logan hitting a superb strike that was dipping under the bar bringing an excellent fingertip save from their keeper, but finished the half 1-0 down. The second half we were shooting up the hill. We defended well for the first 5 minutes but they scored 2 quick goals. Harbour kept fighting playing good football and coming close to scoring through themselves. The game finished with the Peacehaven Heights team winning. However, Harbour have improved with every game, they have shown excellent team spirit and have always been positive and keen to play. Well done - I am very proud of your attitude and have enjoyed watching you compete each week.

They reported on BMX stunt rider Matti Hemming who visited us amongst other schools and also confirmed that we were one of only 3 schools in East Sussex to have received a Silver School Mark.
